Bren Semi Conversion Drawings

by EZFEED
Note from EZFeed about the Semi-Bren Drawings: This design has not yet been reclassified. I started by leaving the hammer installed in the carrier and clamped it upside down in the mill and shaved the sides and the bottom 1.7" towards the front being careful to leave all of the material behind the recoil rod pocket. In doing this you will machine away the charging handle stud and the sear engagement area. You will mill down the rail on the left side and you will leave the rail forward of the charging handle stud intact. Remove the hammer from the carrier. Do this by holding the carrier upright and setting the rear pointed tip of the bolt ramp on the edge of a table and push down.

Once you have compressed the spring withdraw the flat key with stud built in it and knock it out(be careful). Using a cutoff wheel or a 1/8" mill slot the areas shown in the drawings for the striker bar. This is probably the hardest part to do so take your time. Slot the forward hump shown on the carrier.25" so that you can remove the firing pin once the hammer is welded in place. Construct the striker by simply machining a block to replace what you machined away.

Construct the rear plate for the striker out of 3/16" thick flat bar. This plate is what the striker rod attaches to and it spaces the rear of the carrier away from the buffer. The Bren uses a two part buffer system. Once the buffer in the trigger housing is fully collapsed the area above the buffer contacts the rear of the bolt and acts upon the plunger and spring within the carrier. By attaching the plate to the striker the carrier cannot recoil sufficient enough to allow the bolt to contact the upper surface. This is what is needed once the hammer is welded in place.

A striker bar is made out of 1/8" flat stock and fits within the hammer and protrudes slightly below the lower surface of the hammer. A cross pin retains the striker bar within the hammer. Weld the little shim that replaces the charging handle stud in place. Shave down the right hand side of the carrier above the right hand rail to clear the new bar in the receiver. Weld the hammer in the carrier as shown and modify the fire control group as shown also.

Drill 5 small holes in the right hand side of the trigger housing and construct the plate as shown and weld in place. This is perhaps the most difficult part of the job and like I said before as I have looked at it I have found several different ways to accomplish this. I have traced several of these parts from mine but please be careful when and if you start or cut. I encourage you to come up with your own but feel free to use mine for ideas or to build from. This is not an easy conversion due to the small working area but it works and it's cheap and legal. Have fun!!!!!!!
