Sgt Saunders FNG!

Here the sight, http://www.gunsnammo.com/
Go buy a Finnish M-39, the Poor Man's Garand.
These are very accurate, and are a solid rifle with a little heft
to asorb the recoil of the 7.62x54R. The Finns took the Mosin Nagant
to the pinacle of prefection. (As far as you can take a Mosin.)
The reciever will handle the cartridge no matter if it was made in 1891
or later to end of production. The Finns even perfected them for competition shooting and Empire arms still has some I belive. If you want a cheap mosin then go buy an M44
or a 91/30 there everywhere, but if you want a rifle you can count on, then the Finn M-39
Is the one. I own several am quite pleased with them all. Then of course there is all the other Finnish models M27,28,28/30, yada yada yada.......... one caution there like lays potato chips you can't have just one.
My 2c.

ETG,
Get a new muzzle brake for that thing and you should be able to get more rounds downrange per session. I changed to an Armalite AR-50 brake on my Ultramag upper (22" barrel) and I can shoot 50 rounds or so before the ammo cost guilt or headache from overpressure stops me.

As for Mosin Nagants especially the M44, If you don't like the recoil I would recommend using the short range training ammo before doing a bubba modification to the weapon. Better yet, you shoot that ammo and give your friends the heavy ball and then laugh at them and call them pussies when they start to flinch!
