This has to be the death of life for Brian and Dianne. Trying to cover for a miscreant relative is one of those things you do pretty much without question and then you suffer until it's over.

I've got no horse in this race but I've been there, and then found my indignation to be reversed on me. I bailed out a cousin on a bad business deal only to be held responsible for the debt, and then found myself in the position 10 years later of owing him when he came to my rescue and bailed me out of one of my own bad decisions.

I hope none of you self-riteous guys never have to be on the other side.

No no, don't get all bent out of shape. Re-read his post..He says "I hope none of you self-riteous guys never have to be on the other side" so, when he' says none and never, by using two negatives like that, he's not really saying anything at all of value".....Of course..if he had dropped a ton of cash and he got ripped off, I doubt he'd be saying even that outlandish statement in the first place.

And even if he doesn't pay the judgement, They have a way of rearing their ugly heads at the worst times. Like when you try to buy a house, Loans, Background checks, ETC.

winning a judgment against the penleys in court forces them to take action or violate a court order for payment of money owed.
there are consequences for violating the judgment, even if they are not stiff penalties, its better than doing nothing and wishing someone else would fix your problem. no one is going to be your white knight and get your money back for you. that is up to you to do.
if you are owed over 5 thousand, i believe that qualifies as a felony or carries stiffer penalties.

talk to your local police and DA. tell them you want this resolved and are willing to do the leg work to make it happen.
it should not cost you much to file in small claims, maybe 50-100$
that is cheap, IMO. this has gone on for far too long.
