Post Broken shell extractor

Can anyone advise me on the broken shell extractor? I have one that looks like it's for a 30-06 and I have a 308. Will this work or do I need to find one specifically for a 308 A4?

Post A definate...it depends

The .308 and 30-06 use the same bullet and close enough case necks that the fingers will grab. The 30-06 tool is too long , as you know. If it is the style where you insert it by hand and then run a cleaning rod down the bbl and knock it out , yes , it will work.
If you have the type where the bolt rams it home , then I'd say no. It will work , but it would be easy to have it slip and run up into the rifling and maybe damaging something.
If the handle type, then again , yes, but you'd have to insert it carefully and have spacer/flatwashers to take up the slack in order to have a surface to pivot on.

Default Maybe

Some 3006 extractors are convertible for .308 use. Unscrew the shaft and turn over the base. Reattach the shaft & use on .308. If you have the fixed shaft version, you'll have to buy another extractor for .308.

Here is the reversible type 30-06 unscrewed on the left and 308 assembled on the right.
