I was going to say, that may be the reason your computer crashes all the time, using a model..
rugman59:
MODEM, not model! Just catching up on shouts.
rugman59:
I thought it had gone insane and was gonna explode, maybe!
rugman59:
The internal model croaked, and the "sticky keys' thingie was on.

Breech Lock Cam Screw Fabrication
After getting hex head screws as replacements for the breech lock cam screw I decided to modify them too flat head slotted screw. Here is how I went about it.
Chuck the screw in a hand drill.
Then grind the hex head away. Go slowly so you don't soften the screw head.
Using a needle file slot the screw or if you have a steady hand the slot can be deepened quickly w/ a dremel but care must be exercised as you can cut to deep too quickly.
Now you have this.
Using a fine cut file w/ the drill press on the slowest speed cut the chamfer on the outside edge of the screw move the file smoothly away from you to cut keeping the angle constant.
That produces your screws profile.
An original screw flanked on both sides by a JMB produced screw. The original is parked with the new being cold blued until I get a park setup.
The final product next to the hex head screw.

Nice job! Reminds me of the .200" slotted set screws I made out of a hex socket screw. I almost feel bad telling you this, but tomt at Karma Metal Products has new made breech lock cam screws available at a very reasonable price. Not as much pride as in making your own, though!

I already had the hex head screws and wanted to put them to good use. I also wanted to let others know if they had similar hex heads how to modify them. Thanks for the post up.

yeah you can do that...........or buy a allen head screw from HOME DEPOT that works perfectly as a breech screw, it's has a large head, and is completly flat on the underside of the head and snugs up nicely against the botton flat....that is what I went with, it cost something like a dollar

The allen head screw you speak of is in the last pic. It is what I made the flat head screw from. I thought the look of the allen head screw on the gun looked extremely out of place considering when these BMG's were made. Of course your mileage may vary!

that is not the allen head screw I speak of.......the one I bought already has the bottom of the head made flat and covers where the original size screw covered.

Slowfire,
They call that a Butten Head Cap Screw.
JBM,
That a nice " How Too" post you got here.. Folks sometimes forget its not an easy run for some of us to get to a store for a simple Item..A run to a Home Depot, or anywhere else for me is at least a 1hr round trip that ends up eating up 2 hrs..Not to mention you usally discover you need that one little thing in the wee hr's of the night when your trying to finish up a project and all the stores are closed.. OR, not wanting to wait a day or two for something to come in the mail.
I've made a lot of little things to finish up jobs that I could problibly get for pocket change.. If this post was in the SHTF department it would be called being Self Reliant. ....Lou
