Numrich still has plenty of 4 packs in stock in the carrier. They list it under "CZ" and describe it as a VZ-26. They were around $125 Pre-sandy, so only a minor increase vs the nonsense at IMA

These are not Czech made mags but are Spanish, made by Oveido, for the Spanish copy of the VZ26, the F.A.O. They are a bit different than the standard CZ mags, which is evident if seen side by side, but will work fine in any LMG that takes the CZ mags. Metal carry box is nice, too......
That is why they are cheaper than CZ vintage mags, which often have waffens stamped on them making them collector items, as well as shooter mags.

ZB39 mags

Hershmeister,

I've got a number of those ZB39 mags. After some experimenting I got them to hold and feed 25 rds. of 7.62x54r. It takes some work but it can be done. I just removed the box structure on rear of the follower and ground down the horns on the follower and the ZB39 worked with 7.62 x 51.

Tell me more please. Any pictures? I have a couple Rhodesian 7.62 NATO barrels for my Bren and I would like to get it to fire 7.62 NATO reliably. I already have an 8mm setup for it from Len Savage and that works just fine.

Dan,

I've got the SA barrel and a L4 extractor. Like you, I just wanted to shoot 7.62 Nato without converting the gun to use the FAL mag and consequently not be able to shoot anything else. I found out from the Milsrpls Board that a ZB39 mag could be used. I have not fired anything yet. I still have to modify a bolt for my semi. I'm using a 7.62x54R modified bolt with the L4 extractor for my experiments. It seems to cycle the 7.62 nato fine. An unmodified ZB39 mag will not work. I had to do 2 things to the mag to make it accept & feed the 7.62 Nato. When you take the mag apart there is a box like structure attached to the follower. Slide out the spring and remove the box and then slide the spring back in. This will allow the follower to rotate. Grind about .040" off the horns on the rear of the follower. If you don't do this you won't feed the last round or it will jam. With those two mods I can load and cycle 25 rds of 7.62 Nato with the ZB39 mag. As I said I haven't got the bolt modified yet to try live fire at the range.

How is your 8mm set up and what mag does it use? If your mag well is modified to accept a ZB 30 8mm mag 7.62 x51 will work in the ZB30 mag.

My camera battery crapped out but I don't think I have enough posts to post a pic.

Len Savage set up my BREN for 8mm. My gun is a FA re-weld I got from DLO about 12 years ago. Len took it all apart and fixed the welds, re-machined it, and added a new refinish. To feed 8mm I use a ZB26/30 magazines. Len showed me how to cut up and stick felt filler pieces on the inside of the magazine well so that the ZB magazines fit snugly and don't rock from side to side. I just get self sticky felt pads from Lowes and cut pieces to fit. I add the felt pads prior to shooting 8mm and take the pads out when I go back to .303. It works fine.

Dan,

My Brens are semi-auto so there may be issues that will show up FA that wouldn't be anticipated considering semi-auto only. I just modified my Bren MK II to accept the ZB26/30 magazine. I was interested to see if it would work for 7.62 x51. It cycles fine by hand with the 7.62 Nato. It works with a full mag which is 20rds FA but only 19 rds semi.

I did notice the side play. After some live fire at the range I'll decide whether it needs work. If I have to modify it I'll solder shims to the side of the mag to avoid messing with the felt strips since I don't expect I'll ever use the mag in a ZB30.
