Anyone with any experience with Cavim-Venezula 762x51, 1970's.

Corrisive? Good for a 1919a4?

I never had any problem shooting it but I believe there was a lacquer type coating to the brass which caused the HK guys to shy away from it. If I remember right it also had a different type of smell to it when you were shooting it...or maybe that was just the guys I was shooting with.

I've shot a bunch of it also, it has No lacquer coating on the brass, the reason the HK's don't run it, well is because the brass is really really soft and thick.. It tends to stick in the fluted chamber and tear the rims off the cases Problematic..in a HK.. yes but it will run fine is most other rifles. DSA doesn't recommend it either in their FAL's don't know why I've run it in FALs M14 and bolt guns.. It is very nice ammo all copper jacketed bullet with a lead core no steel in it.. and the cases are reloadable.. Non corrosive primer also.. B2B

I've never shot any out of my HK-91 or my SW3 clone, I'm just going from what others have said.. about Cavim ammo with the 91 having problems with soft brass. Rory That is great to hear your clone 91 worked with no problems, I have also heard steel cases didn't work well in the 91 but I have shot some Chinese 308 through the HK-91 and they worked but the ejector did break a few chuncks out of the rims spitting them out.. I'd say if you can get your hands on some at a good price do it.. The cost of 308 ammo right now is quite high, I always love 308 that is boxer primed because I'm a reloading whore..and you can use it over again..now that being said I'd rather not use boxer cases in the HK-91 they get quite mangled..I'd rather use non boxer cases.. and leave them lay.. I think Cavim will work very well out of the belt guns.. B2B

Cavim is great ammo.

There is no external lacquer on it except for the primer seal which is green.

The bullets are sealed with asphalt. some guys don't like it in their FALS. For a 1919, it should perform fine.

The brass is boxer primed,(at least all of mine is) with three point primer crimp which is easily removed with a couple of twists of deburring tool

The brass is also quite soft and the case neck walls thicken after firing. Be aware of this if you are reloading and guage your ammo afterwards.

Depending on what you shoot it out of, you may get two reloads before the brass thins too much above the web. Watch for the bright ring when resizing.

I bought mine when it was $134/K.....wish I'd bought a pallet of it now.

Cavim runs great in a 1919. We tried it in a F/A G3 and it would hang in the flutes and stop the gun up. Soft brass big time, it would totally conform to the fluting. Great stuff though other than that. I have a shitload of it and shot even more of it.

That is what I heard also in the H&K. Cavim brass flowed into the flutes of the chamber and rims get tore off. Not a bad price in today's market for loadable brass.. I agree about the primer pockets also..they will open up after a few firings.. because the brass is so soft.. But I will still run them a few firings.. B2B

I've more than a few 1000's with the 1919 and the ANM2 back when it was cheap (11-3C/rd) and a bunch through a HK51 and G3. I had problems with the 51 only to have Terry Dyer tell me "DON'T RUN THAT **** IN HK'S!!":( after we replaced most of the extraction system one afternoon. That plus a really good you DUMB-ASS look!
Great ammo just not for all guns.:p
