by staff@1919a4.com Since quite a few of us here at 1919a4.com are interested in building our own semi 1919a4 from a surplus parts kit, and there are many suppliers of such kits, we thought it would be interesting to have a look at several kits from the largest and most popular suppliers of such kits. We contacted all the major suppliers, and of those, the following chose to participate in the review: Armex - .308 1919a4 Parts Kit
[Editor's note: Armex is no longer selling 1919a4 parts kits.] After taking the Armex International 1919a4 parts kit out of the box, I wondered if they had made a mistake and perhaps sent me a new parts kit rather than a used one. Each part was neatly wrapped in packing paper, and each had been cleaned of debris and most of the grease that typically accompanies such parts kits.
Taking a closer look, I found that the parts were indeed used, though they were all in excellent condition. Some of the parts had Hebrew letters marked on them, as this kit--like the others in this review--was the .308 conversion that was made in Israel in the eighties.
As with most 1919a4 parts kits, the left sideplate, bottom plate and top plate had been separated from each other. Usually, the area where the bottom plate and left sideplate had the rivets removed is roughly done, with lots of markings and apparent grinding visible (as you will see with the other kits). The Armex kit's plate was done very cleanly, as evidenced in the picture on the left. The apparent "scratches" visible in the image are caused by the lighting, and aren't visible to the naked eye. Notice that in the picture above you can't even see them.
The bolt was in perfect shape, and came with the spring and disassembly screw in place--there were a few parts that still needed to be assembled on the bolt, but they were included in the sealed plastic bag along with all the other small parts. Every single part was included in the kit, with the exception of the evil and dreaded right side plate--this is one complete, clean kit.
For $279, this parts kit can't be beat. All the parts were in great shape, very clean--ready to begin work on that semi. [Editor's note: Armex is no longer selling 1919a4 parts kits.] Now, on to the next parts kit, this one from Gun Parts Corp. |
