1919a4 Parts Kit Review, Part 3

Sarco - .308 1919a4 Parts Kit

Sarco 1919a4 Parts Kit Sarco has been mentioned several times in our discussion forums, so I was glad to finally be able to take a personal look at their 1919a4 parts kit. The kit arrived with all parts packed loosely in styrofoam peanuts. Like most gun parts kits, the Sarco kit came with a generous amount of packing grease and dirt on it from years of storage.

Sarco pental mount tube with ding Everything arrived in good condition, with the exception of the pintal mount tube; it was pinched a bit on one end. Had I called Sarco about it, they would have replaced the part, which was probably damaged in shipment by UPS (imagine that).

The sideplates have both been removed from the bottom plate by grinding the rivets off, much like the right sideplate on the Gun Parts Corp kit. This doesn't hurt the bottom plate at all, however it does require some cleanup work before parkerizing. Sarco plainly states in their ads that you are buying a kit that contains all the parts of a 1919a4 with the exception of the right sideplate and the rivets, but you are not buying a complete gun minus the right sideplate--that would not be legal. That is certainly the case here, as all the parts have been taken apart and separated.

As you can see below, the trigger box and bolt are both in great shape. All the assorted small parts are included as well, as pictured below (they come in a plastic bag). The barrel bore is in good shape, and the barrel shroud is decent, although it has some small scratch marks that will easily come out when it is parkerized.

At $269--the cheapest price of those we reviewed--considering the overall condition of the kit, this is a great price. Sarco also sells a .30-06 Kit reworked from a 7.62mm kit (small quantity available) for $319 each, or a combination kit with both .30-06 and 7.62mm, allowing you to switch the parts back and forth so you can shoot either caliber for $419.

While there are various small differences between the parts kits we've covered, all still fit into the "great deal" category. Realize that until recent years, these kits sold for $700 - $900. At the current prices, these kits are a bargain, especially if you're thinking about building your own semi 1919a4.
