External vs. Internal scope crosshair adjustment screws

I heard that years ago scopes came with either internal or external crosshair adjustments. Kind of like Beta vs VHS. Even though external screws were more solid and less likely to lose their zero, they lost out to the sleeker design of internal adjustment. When it comes to firearms, I usually want reliability over looks. Does anyone still make externally adjusted scopes?

Most are rebuilding them but your talking about this http://unertl.alexweb.net/lyman_stp.htm

    I have them on a win 52 b and a 75.

    Old school but they work.
I found some in the range of 100-150. Good deals are still out there and a few are new made.
I would look at some of the classic web sites. Look for black powder long range scopes. I see them from time to time at black powder shoots.

What one you looking, or just going retro?

For what we do this day and time there is no reason for them other then retro.
New scopes are far better then in the 20-30's.

Web prices on the site... http://unertl.alexweb.net/for_sale.htm

I heard that the external was much better so I was wondering, if this is the case, why they are not made today. I'm not looking for one right now, but I'm always interested in something that might be better.

Elcan gives you external adjustments with 5.56 or 7.62 ballistic reticles. Excellent equipment. Seals just contracted for large quanity of these scopes.

    That's a nice scope. It's just the $1700.00 price tag I don't like.
