I'm thinking about machining out an otherwise uninteresting M1 Garand receiver and buying one of SARCOs BM-59 kits. I've seen one of the completed guns, and they look good.

How would a REAL machinist go about machining out one of these receivers?

If I knew what approach an experienced machinist would take I could probably decide whether this is out of my league or not.

I'm really a self-taught machinist with rudimentary skills. If it is mostly an equipment issue, I'm probably there. If it is master machinist level stuff, then I am most certainly NOT.

Would love to hear from the pros about how they would approach machining the inside of an M1 Garand receiver to make it into a BM-59
