    Vickers Spade Grip disassembly question

I am looking at the Vickers spade grip and trying to understand how the actual wood grips are removed.
On the bottom are two small holes that I expect are use to turn out the tubes that the wood grips slip over.
Which way do they turn? Clockwise or Counter Clockwise?

Does anyone have any experience with taking these apart?
Any tips to keep the task straightforward?

Facing the bottom of the grip, turn clockwise since the threads are in the top brackets. Use or devise a pin wrench. Pins must fit tightly into the holes. Using just two short pins made from spring steel wire, I often drill the holes a bit deeper to give the pins resistance against tilting. Also, drilling the holes to fit the pins tightly if the holes are already buggered.
Turn slowly initially, reversing direction alternately until the stake depressions have conformed to the threads if the grip has been staked to the bracket.
Sometimes the grips are tight and sometimes not. Luck of the draw.
Move the grip slowly when starting and get a feel for it the tightness and unscrew it according to the feel.
    Good luck.

Bob, thank you for sharing your expertise!
I never thought that the actual threads were in the top portion of the bracket!
At least I know where to place oil NOW.
The task isn't for this weekend.

    Hi,
Bob is an extremely knowledgeable person who probably has forgotten 100 times more stuff about guns that I will ever know. I think there may be a small error in his post, the threads on the steel oil bottles that fit through the wood grips and into the Vickers spade grip frame are on the bottom, not the top. Everything else said was spot on.
