    Twin MG34, both with trommelhalters

I have been looking at hundreds of WWII images on histomil.com
I ran across this odd turret set up with a small cannon and two co-axial MG34's.
The MG34's seem to be standard guns and both are fitted with trommelhalters.

    It is an interesting picture.
It looks like the turret is on a stand and not on a hull.

some form of Sd.Kfz 231 turret?? or possibly a training version.

maybe the sheets are to keep the noise of the empties from jingling so much- or block out the light from outside to make it feel like you're really in a turret with limited light.

Probably a training setup for the Panzer III. Early versions had the twin MG and a 50mm cannon setup like that.

From a Mark III A-F models with a 37mm cannon, not 50mm. the 50mm was installed on the F - J model and the long barrel 50mm was installed on the J - M models.

    Here's an exterior shot.

I would not have thought that the Mark III tank was fitted with MG34's that were fed from Patronentrommel 34's.
Did the Mark II have the same guns in its turret?
I wonder if that is why the trommelhalters are not seen much as most WWII German tanks ended badly!

The PzII had a KwK30 L/55 2 cm gun. Basically a full auto 20mm cannon with a (10 round magazine (IIRC)). Coaxial armament was a single MG34.

The late war PzII "Lynx" was a different animal but same armament.

these would have been a nightmare for soft targets/areas.
